Are you just finishing your studies and ready to dive into the world of agricultural technology? Do you enjoy working with your hands, love big machines, and dream of working internationally?
Then HuizingHarvest might just be the perfect place to start your journey.
Here, you don’t just build machines—you build your future. As an agrotechnology mechanic, you’ll find yourself in the field, on the factory floor, or on-site with a customer. In the Netherlands or far beyond. Think: assembling harvesters in France, testing tractors in Germany, or tweaking prototypes in Italy.
Just ask Gerben, one of our mechanics. One day he’s working alone in the workshop. The next, he’s out in the field with a colleague, setting up a machine in a remote location. The variety is huge. You’ll work with different brands and types of equipment, learn fast, and have room to grow.
Read Gerben’s story to see what a typical day can look like.
You’ll learn a lot, work with different brands, and have the chance to grow.
You might be standing right where Nico Huizing once stood.
As a student at the University of Applied Sciences in Dronten, he went to Poland for an internship. What started as a valuable learning experience quickly turned into a lifelong passion—for agriculture, technology, and working abroad.
In 2009, he founded HuizingHarvest with one clear goal:
to provide agrotechnical support wherever it’s needed—at machinery manufacturers, dealers, and large-scale farms, all over the world.
And it worked.
Today, our team includes over 30 professionals based in the Netherlands and another 20 in Australia. All with one shared mindset:
Do I need to live near Emmen?
No, that’s not necessary. Our team is based all over the Netherlands—and even abroad. Since our projects are spread throughout the country and beyond, there’s no need to live near Emmen.
What kind of projects will I work on?
You’ll work on technical projects for manufacturers, dealers, and farming operations. Sometimes it’s about assembly or testing, other times it’s maintenance or service work. The tasks can be repetitive at times, but you’ll work in a variety of locations with many different machines.
Do I need experience with all types of machines?
Definitely not. You don’t need to know everything right away. If you have technical insight and are motivated to learn, we’ll guide you step by step.
Will I mostly work alone or in a team?
That depends on the project. Sometimes you’ll work independently, sometimes with HuizingHarvest colleagues, and occasionally with the customer’s team.
What does a typical work week look like?
That varies from project to project. In the Netherlands, you’ll usually work Monday through Friday. For international projects, the days may be longer, but you’ll get time off—either during or after the project.
Will I be home every day after work?
It depends on the project, the location, and your personal preferences. Some projects require you to stay away from home for several days in a row, while others allow you to return home each day.
How long will I be away during a project?
For international projects, you usually work on-site for a continuous period. This is always discussed in advance and typically lasts between 2 and 4 weeks. After that, a colleague will take over the project from you.
What if I don’t want to go abroad for a while?
No problem. We always plan in consultation and take your personal preferences and situation into account.
Who arranges everything if I work abroad?
For international projects, we usually take care of your travel and accommodation. Everything is arranged and discussed in advance. If you travel to multiple locations during a project, you may organize part of your stay yourself—in coordination with us.
Do I need to speak English?
A good command of English is important. Most communication within HuizingHarvest is in English, and some colleagues don’t speak Dutch. Other languages are a bonus, but not required.
Can I grow within HuizingHarvest?
Absolutely. If you want to take on more responsibility or develop your skills further, we’re happy to support you.
